Harassed For Standing Up To Big Business
Pavitri Manjhi is part of an Adivasi Indigenous community in India who are at risk of being kicked off their land to make way for two power plants. They stand to lose their farms and livelihoods.
Villagers say they were forced to sell their land by agents acting on behalf of two private companies. As a village leader, Pavitri helped people file nearly 100 formal complaints against the companies involved. And for that she is facing ongoing intimidation.
Pavitri is being harassed to withdraw the complaints. Local ‘strongmen’ have even gone to her home and threatened her.
Urge the Director General of Police, Chhattisgarh , to ensure Pavitri’s security!
