Adivasis in Raigarh Need Your Help!

Stand up #ForIndigenousRights!

Scores of Adivasis in Raigarh district are saying that they have been forced to sell their lands through threats, intimidation, coercion and misinformation – to agents acting on behalf of two private companies: Mahavir Energy Coal Beneficiation Limited and TRN Energy Private Limited, a subsidiary of ACB (India) Power Limited and Jindal Steel and Power Limited mined forest right land of Adivasis without their consent.

In June, 98 Adivasi individuals from four villages in Raigarh district came together at the district’s Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare (Special) Police station and submitted criminal complaints under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 (PoA).

What Can You Do?

The police accepted the complaints, but have refused to register FIRs until preliminary enquiries have been conducted.- This is where we need your help!
The PoA Act criminalizes the displacement of Adivasis without their consent – this means that the Adivasis, if their allegations are proven, have a fighting chance at justice!

Amnesty India is calling on you to urge the Chhattisgarh police to do their duty and investigate the allegations. By signing this petition, you are asking the Chhattisgarh police to register the FIRs and take immediate action.

Act now to demand justice for Adivasis- stand up #ForIndigenousRights today!
