RTI response from Ministry of Home Affairs on 1984 SIT probe

On April 3, 2015, Campaigner Sanamdeep Singh (@sanamwazir) filed an RTI (Right to Information) request to the Ministry of Home Affairs asking for the following information on the SIT set up by the department to reinvestigate the closed cases of violence in thh 1984 Sikh massacre in New Delhi.

  1. A copy of the circular/notification by which SIT was constituted by the MHA in February 2015
  2. The mandate of the SIT including: it’s role and responsibilities, procedure being followed by the SIT and geographical mandate
  3. The timeline within which SIT is supposed to complete its investigation
  4. Members of the SIT committee, including their names along with contact details.

The MHA has responded to Sanamdeep’s RTI request with a copy of the order of the SIT which mentions details of the members of the SIT, the terms of the reference for the team and the timeline of the investigation.
