India: Excessive Force Used Against Civilians in Assam
As massive protests against the amendments in the Citizenship Act continue unabated in at least many north-eastern states of India, the Government of India must immediately order security forces to stop using excessive, including lethal force against protesters. It must ensure that the right to life is protected at all costs.

WhatsApp, a messaging service owned by Facebook has confirmed that many journalists and human rights activists from India have been the target of surveillance by a spyware produced by the Israeli firm NSO. This is a grave violation of the activists’ fundamental right to privacy enshrined in both national and international law.
