The Story Of Amnesty International India So Far
From the time of The Emergency we've been working to build a rights respecting society in India.
What Are Human Rights?
Human rights are the basic freedoms and protections that belong to every single one of us
Human rights are the basic freedoms and protections that belong to every single one of us. All human beings are born with equal and inalienable rights and fundamental freedoms.
Our Global Leader
Salil Shetty joined Amnesty International as the organization’s eighth Secretary General in 2010. A long-term activist on poverty and justice, Salil Shetty leads the movement's worldwide work to end human rights violations and has spearheaded a significant move of Amnesty International's work to the global south.
Aakar Anil Patel joined Amnesty International India as the organization’s third Executive Director in 2015.
Our Work Around The World
A Global Human Rights Movement
Amnesty International has a presence in over 150 countries around the world. Our global teams bring torturers to justice, change oppressive laws and free people jailed just for voicing their opinion.
How We Work
Around the world we protect people and communities who come under attack, encourage governments and others to respect human rights. We are currently the world’s largest grassroots human rights organization, and have received the Nobel Peace Prize for our work.
Our Work In The Region
The space for freedom of expression is shrinking across South Asia and South East Asia. Key freedoms, such as freedom of expression, are under threat as many countries intensify their crackdowns and seek to tighten control on civil society.
Who We Are
Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people campaigning to protect human rights. We envision of a world in which each and every person enjoys all of the rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.
